Cancer survivor earns global recognition

Warriors with a Purpose founder was selected for a scholarship through her advocacy.

After years of advocating and being the epitome of strength, resilience, and compassion, the founder of Warriors with a Purpose, Renée Singh (Ney), is set to be a beacon of light on the global stage.

Renée, a resilient cancer survivor and dedicated breast cancer advocate, has been honoured with a prestigious scholarship to attend the World Cancer Congress in Geneva in September.

This warrior’s journey began in 2017 when she was diagnosed with invasive lobular carcinoma, stage 2, a type of breast cancer, and she described this as the most challenging and painful part of her life.

“I was not fully educated on the disease and had no clue as to what I would expect. Being married and a mom of two handsome boys and one girl, I chose to fight and beat this deadly disease through a nipple-sparing mastectomy, chemotherapy, radiation, and being hospitalised.”

She had no choice but to put up a fight to survive this disease and fight harder for her family.

As time progressed, Renée was now on a mission to take her experiences and help empower others. She started interacting with patients at the Charlotte Maxeke Academic Johannesburg Hospital and became a woman hoping to make a difference to a demographic of people who seek support and knowledge of cancer.

“I was still the same girl with the same name, just a different mindset. My challenging journey led to a passion deep inside me, which helped me make a difference in many lives today worldwide,” she added.

Renée has been an active member of the greater community of Roodepoort and has hosted multiple Pink Bra Projects in hospitals, a sanitary pad drive, and cancer awareness in schools, the most recent being at Princess High School.

She has achieved many prestigious awards and is an ambassador for Karoo Susters Tydskrif/ Magazine. She is a firm believer that cancer is not a death sentence; there’s always hope and support.
