As the school holidays approach, the Earth Centre invited learners from Randburg Clinic School, a school designated for learners who have been diagnosed with an Autism Spectrum Disorder and Severe Behaviour Disorder, to enjoy a day of fun activities and horseback riding.
On Wednesday, June 12, learners received a warm welcome and an introduction to the different activities before being given a crash course on horse riding from the herd manager of the Earth Centre, Angie Machna.
“The learners are having fun with therapy riding on their last day of term two. The pool noodle forest is always a favourite and makes everyone, including the volunteers, have a good giggle.
“They embarked on different exercises to improve posture and muscle tone. The sensory trail offers a wide variety of colours, shapes, and animals. The riding activities are designed to help with both physical and mental stimulation,” Angie says.
The school extended its heartfelt gratitude to the centre for allowing their learners to ease off from their day-to-day schedules and just be young and free for the day.
