National Child Protection Week: Organisation breaks the silence

The organisation educates children about their rights during Child Protection Week.

As Child Protection Week comes to an end, the Mofuthu Wa Lerato (the warmth of love) organisation in Florida also took part in the campaign.

This year’s National Child Protection Week was observed from May 26 to June 5 by the Department of Social Development under the theme Protecting South African Children 30 Years On.

The purpose is to raise awareness about the rights of children, as articulated in the Children’s Act, and to remind communities of the obligation they have to ensure a safe and secure environment for them to thrive.

The Mofuthu Wa Lerato organisation, which mostly cares about the safety of children from all walks of life, took it upon themselves to have a mini diary section with these young minds on Saturday, June 1, where they engaged in meaningful and thought-provoking conversations.

The organisation’s chairperson, Alphonce Lephakha, and the founder of the organisation, Queen Seepe, believe that the children have a full understanding of their rights, bullying, negligence, harm, and abuse, and where they can report any of this.

“As an organisation that deals with children, we want to teach society, parents, children, and everyone else how to protect the children around them. If the children know their rights, no one will take advantage of them,” Queen said.

The Florida Police Station Commander, Colonel Amos Lefa Tsotetsi, also supported the campaign, reassuring children that dedicated professionals are looking out for their safety.
