Smooth voting at Ridgecrest Family Church

The Ridgecrest Family Church ensured that voting proceeded smoothly on Wednesday, May 29.

Election Day saw thousands descend on the Ridgecrest Family Church voting station to cast their ballots.

The greatest challenges, as at most voting stations, were heavy traffic, limited parking, and long lines of residents waiting their turn to vote.

Fortunately, the Ridgecrest Family Church was ready, as was evident in the fact that despite all the challenges, voting went relatively smoothly.

The church, in conjunction with the Radiokop Residents Association, roped in help from the Toolbox Hub to help with parking and to ensure the safety of vehicles while residents voted.

They also provided help to elderly and infirm voters in the form of hired golf carts with which they transported the less mobile to the front of the line.

According to Glen Wagner, a deacon at the church, congregants jumped in on the day to help with directing traffic and providing other logistical help to ensure everything went smoothly.

In addition, the church erected a convenient market for voters, supplying cold drinks and snacks.

“The line has been consistently long,” says Wagner. “Luckily there have not been any problems. The golf carts proved to be an excellent idea since it was quite a long [and steep] walk from the nearest parking to the church premises where voting took place.”
