SAPS honours community heroes
The Roodepoort police have awarded security officers, community volunteers, and other role players for their hard work.
The Roodepoort police’s Sector 1 held a very special Sector Crime Forum meeting on May 9.
The meeting was held in the boardroom of the Roodekrans Neighbourhood Watch, and as usual, under the guidance of Sector 1 manager, Warrant Officer Johan Loots.
Various issues regulated to combatting crime in the area were discussed.
On this occasion, however, Loots took the opportunity to acknowledge and thank various role players for their outstanding and often selfless efforts to keep Sector 1 and its residents safe.
Certificates of appreciation and acknowledgement were handed out to patrollers, medical and fire first responders, emergency management service (EMS) personnel, security companies and reaction officers, as well as representatives of the Roodepoort Chaplaincy who have gone above and beyond what would ordinarily expected of them.
“We also awarded two special certificates of recognition to our K9 friends who help to make Sector 1 a safer place to live,” Andreas Oberlechner, chairperson of the Roodekrans Neighbourhood Watch, said.
“It is as a direct result of the efforts of these individuals and the various security companies working together that Sector 1 has a long track record of having the lowest crime statistics in Roodepoort.”
According to Loots, he is proud that all the hard work of Roodepoort police officers as well as the various volunteers, patrollers, EMS personnel, and others are bearing fruits.
“Our efforts to keep Sector 1 safe would never be as successful without the input and efforts of these people who truly go above and beyond in their service to the community,” he said.
“As the police, we do not often get the opportunity to acknowledge the extraordinary efforts of all the companies and individuals that support the work we do in local communities, so we are thankful for this opportunity to express our thanks to those who help make a difference. The individuals and companies that were commended with certificates were recognised for their dedication and their selfless work for their community throughout Sector 1.
“Too often the work that is done by these individuals is taken for granted and this was a way to let them know that their efforts are recognised and truly appreciated.”
