Blankets just in time for winter

Organisation hosts blanket workshop for women.

The Debswane Project has undertaken another activation to uplift, empower and entertain women while raising funds for a cause close to their hearts.

On May 11, Debbie Swanepoel, founder of the project, partnered with The Earth Centre in Ruimsig to launch a blanket workshop aimed at providing skills and opportunities for women from all walks of life while raising funds for their mission partners.

The Earth Centre is a facility that provides therapy to disadvantaged disabled children, and all the proceeds go into improving the experience of the children. The facility has horseback riding, colouring, and knitting for mobility and mental health purposes for the children.

At least 20 women were gathered together to knit blankets, support each other, and enjoy playing games together.

Debbie started this project to help innovative young and old women by providing them with basic life skills that will help them strive and be better people.

“We have been doing these kinds of workshops for five years now. We give back to charity in our immediate community. The workshops are the fundraising element that’s important to me, but Debswane has a motto, Unleash your inner sparkle, meaning that the women we have here are encouraged to find what drives them,” she said.

However, the project still needs donations to support the project’s needs. The organisation urges individuals to contact them via email at info@debswane.co.za or send a WhatsApp to 072 149 3982 at any time for donations and invites women of any age who are interested to join them.
