Fire rages through Discovery house

A house in Lenie Street was ravaged by fire.

A house on Lenie Street Discovery went up in flames on May 9.

Large plumes of smoke filled the air as the top storey of the house was hurled in flame, and neighbours rushed outside to see what was going on.

Firefighters extinguish the fire.

According to Johannesburg Emergency Medical Services (EMS) spokesperson Olile Khumalo, Florida EMS and firefighters responded to the scene after receiving a call shortly after 14:00 on Thursday.

“The house was locked and the owners were standing outside,” Khumalo said. “Firefighters extinguished the fire and luckily there were no injuries reported.

Firefighters put out the flames in short order.

“A thorough investigation by EMS inspectors revealed that the fire was caused by inverter batteries.”

The house sustained considerable damage. According to a security guard deployed at the house in the days after the fire, most of the house was completely gutted.
