WATCH: Goodbye, gentle giant

Community members come together in final salute to a fallen hero.

It was an emotional affair at the Ruimsig Stadium on Friday night, May 10 for a final salute to JMPD Inspector George Wilhelm, aka the Xterminator who passed away in the early hours of that morning.

Members from the Honeydew CPF, BCI Security as well as the Honeydew police, arranged a ceremony to honour George’s memory and invited community members to bring a candle or torch.

Community members, police officers, emergency personnel, security officers, JMPD colleagues and family members were in attendance, and there was not a dry eye in the crowd as Captain Karen Jacobs from the Honeydew police, Jon Rosenberg, the chairperson of the Honeydew CPF, a JMPD colleague as well as Steve Eden from Honour Wrestling Association, shared fond memories and stories about George.

George’s fellow unit members honoured him with a song before a prayer was said.

The evening came to a fitting end when George was given a final salute with flares and candles being lit, and sirens echoing in the night.

Fellow wrestlers were also in attendance to pay their respects to George Wilhelm.
