Rock show for a good cause

Martin Bester and his band took to the stage at Irish Rock Little Falls in aid of the No More Tears animal shelter.

Popular radio morning show host Martin Bester and his band graced the stage for a good cause, in aid of Randfontein-based animal shelter, No More Tears, at Irish Rock Little Falls on March 1.

According to Bester, the whole initiative started with a Facebook post in which he declared that he would like to do more for animal charities this year.

“Liesl Hefer from No More Tears didn’t waste any time and got in contact almost immediately,” he says. “And before we knew it, she had arranged this whole event.”

Singer and saxophonist Chris Batten did an excellent job warming up the crowd for the main event.

The event was organised by Liesl, with Irish Rock Little Falls, and Clearwater Toyota as the main sponsors. The Toyota Knights, an organisation within Toyota that commits itself to good deeds and excellent service, also helped with a dog food collection initiative.

The Irish Rock Little Falls was packed to the rafters with Martin Bester fans and animal lovers.

Bester and band took to the stage to excited applause and immediately proceeded to lift the proverbial roof, playing a strong mix of popular covers and Martin Bester originals, much to the delight of the crowd.

The entrance fee to the show was a bag of dog or cat food, and No More Tears also sold several items, including branded cups and keyholders at the event.

After an electrifying show, companies and individuals were allowed to pledge toward the charity, and a wheelbarrow full of alcohol was auctioned off for a staggering R13 000.
