Rescued dog Lake Lucy Brown, named after the Florida Lake where she was rescued, lived a good life after she was taken in by Sarette Vos. She died on April 10 last year, after being diagnosed with lung cancer.
To commemorate her life, each year all her puppies and their owners get together to celebrate their birthday, which includes a pet-friendly cake and personalised treats.

Lake Lucy’s pups turned 10 in January and Sarette hosted a puppy braai with their owners. This was a great way to celebrate her life and the challenges she faced while being pregnant, before being rescued.
Sarette explains how challenging it was to find a good home for the puppies.
“As a professional dog trainer, it is important for me to make sure a dog has a loving and healthy environment. It breaks my heart when dog owners don’t remain consistent with the responsibilities that come with ownership of their fur babies,” she says.

She and the owners dedicate their time to making sure all nine pups reunite regularly for dog walks.
“Keeping Lucy’s memory alive reminds us of the good work we did when rescuing her,” Sarette adds.
She continues doing regular checkups to make sure the pups are vaccinated, healthy, well-trained and remain in loving homes.
