Do not open your gate to just anyone

Residents are warned to be on the lookout for individuals posing as SPCA inspectors and workers.

Roodepoort residents have a lot to deal with daily, and it seems that there is one more thing they should be on the lookout for.

Mandi Cattanach, the Roodepoort/ Krugersdorp SPCA manager, recently posted a statement on their Facebook page, saying, “It has come to our attention that there are individuals who are impersonating SPCA inspectors and staff. Please do not just allow anyone onto your property.”

How do you recognise SPCA staff members?

• All SPCA Staff wear a uniform consisting of a white shirt with SPCA Inspectorate epaulettes and navy blue pants
• SPCA drivers wear either blue shirts or blue golf shirts with the SPCA logo visible with blue pants and an SPCA cap
• All SPCA vehicles are marked with the SPCA logo and have red emergency lights on the roof
• The SPCA drivers’ vehicle will be marked with the SPCA logo, but will not have red emergency lights

“Should anyone arrive at your property and insist on gaining entrance, if they are not identified as SPCA inspectors, do not allow them on your property. The only time you must grant access is when a police member is present with a warrant from the magistrate in the jurisdiction.

“Should an individual come to your door impersonating an SPCA inspector, please take a photo of the person and the vehicle and contact the Roodepoort SPCA immediately on 011 672 0448.”
