Roodepoort Rugby Club lock, Pierre ‘Bakkies’ Venter, recently survived a life-changing crash.

Reports have been received of Roodepoort Rugby Club lock, Pierre ‘Bakkies’ Venter who was involved in a horrific motorcycle crash.

Unfortunately, Venter, who has been a rugby player at the club for 16 years, received career-ending news following his crash which has also devastated members of the community who have been supporting the 35-year-old for almost his entire career. Hundreds of messages of support poured in to wish him a speedy recovery.

Bakkies said that a distracted motorist was on his cellphone when he drove into his Harley-Davidson which resulted in him sustaining serious injuries. He said he was on his way home from a doctor’s appointment, not far from his house when the driver crashed his vehicle into his motorcycle.

“The scene was handled pretty well by Help24 and from there I went to Krugersdorp Private Hospital to have MRIs and tests done,” Bakkies told the Record and continued that the medical professionals said there’s nothing that can be done for now.

He was later admitted to 1 Military Hospital in Pretoria with a broken neck, back, and collarbone.

He said that the doctors drained about one and a half litres of blood from his lungs and that his collarbone operation would commence as soon as the broken bones were reformed again and continued that he is being seen by multiple doctors and specialists.
