Ogle Foundation spreads hope at Molepi Rising Stars

The foundation aims to spread awareness regarding the issue of lack of sanitary towels and advocates for dignity to keep girls in school.

It was another successful sanitary towel distribution from Ogle Foundation to the grade 4–9 girls at Molepi Rising Stars on November 15.

While some girls were a bit embarrassed due to the sensitive nature of the issue of sanitary towels, other girls were excited to be recipients of this thoughtful gesture.

According to Patty Ogle, founder of the Ogle Foundation, these outreach projects are close to her heart as the foundation aims to keep girls dignified and in school. The initial arrangement was to hand over sanitary towels to about 95 girls, however, due to exams, only managed to speak to 30 of them and provided them with two packs of sanitary towels each.

Lazondo Zondo, Joyce Sithole and Amogelang Sehaswana.

“There was so much excitement! I talked to the girls about periods educating them about what they are and how they should take care of themselves. We also touched on how they should conduct themselves and generally respect and love themselves,” Patty said.

The school has been operating since 2013 and has over 125 learners and has about nine classes in total. It also provides early childhood development facilities for babies from six months. According to principal Thabo Nkosi, a lot of their girls are from poor backgrounds and struggle with their feminine health needs – sanitary towels in particular.

“This was the last school visit for the year 2023, we would like to say a big shout out to Grind Foundation for their continued support, they’ve made a huge difference to the girl child. Not forgetting our volunteers as without them, we couldn’t achieve much,” Patty said.
