Ward 127 motion for service delivery denied
Indifferences between the ruling coalition party of Ward 127 rejected the proposal for adequate service delivery following a council meeting.
Following a council meeting that took place on November 1 to address the pertinent issues of service delivery such as adequate water, sanitation, and electricity in Ward 127 of which the motion was rejected due to political indifferences.
In a media statement issued by Action SA councillor, Lwanda Bini on November 2 which cited that the current ruling parties have ‘no interest in addressing the systemic poverty faced by people in Johannesburg’.
“Matholesville is a township on the outskirts of the West Rand in the City of Johannesburg where crime, unemployment, and abject poverty is the order of the day,” Bini said.
The coalition between EFF and ANC has rejected the motion to identify the challenges within this area, leaving residents with the short end of the stick, therefore having to continue being subjected to inhumane conditions ‘simply because ANC and EFF opted for a party line above the needs of the same voters who mandated them to council’.
Four residents cited their dissatisfaction with this outcome.
Petrus Kawana said, “We have no water; we have no electricity and no adequate toilets. We were hoping that this motion would bring an end to our problems, however nothing. I’m just disappointed.”
Thabo Seoleseng reiterates, “I’m very very much disappointed with what happened today and will stand with the residents to overturn this.”
Mmusetsi Tladi further states, “I’m also very disappointed by this outcome. There is money, but we are being overlooked. They don’t care about us.”
Bini cited that the next step for the next council meeting would be to start a petition for residents to sign and submit to the City of Johannesburg so they can see we are serious about this issue.
