Woman (30) trapped in car wreck after JG Strijdom Road crash

Local organisations and emergency services helped during a four-vehicle crash that left a woman entrapped in the wreck.

A serious motor vehicle collision took place at about 17:00 yesterday (November 2) afternoon on JG Strijdom Road near Fern Avenue.

According to Emer-G-Med’s Kyle van Reenen, reports from the scene indicate a woman (30) was found entrapped in her wrecked vehicle.

“A hydraulic rescue tool that is used to cut her free, while emergency care practitioners used advanced life support intervention to stabilise her,” he stated.

He explained that once the patient was extricated, a decision was made to airlift her with the assistance of the Netcare911 aeromedical helicopter to a specialist facility for the definitive care that she required.

According to Emergency Control SA spokesperson Ian Janse van Rensburg, upon arrival at the scene, it was established that four vehicles were involved in the collision leaving two patients with various injuries.

“Members immediately assisted in road closure to allow paramedics and rescue personnel to work. One patient with critical injuries was extricated from the vehicle before being airlifted to hospital for further care. Another patient with moderate injuries was transported by road to a nearby facility,” stated Janse van Rensburg.

Michael Steyn from the Honeydew Community Policing Forum would like to thank all services who assisted in various roles on the scene.

“While the cause of the crash is unknown at this stage, it will form the subject of investigation by the Johannesburg Metro Police Department,” Steyn concluded.
