Help locate this injured Kloofendal Reedbuck

A Mountain Reedbuck has been injured and is on the loose within the Kloofendal Nature Reserve.

An injured Mountain Reedbuck is on the loose in the Kloofendal Nature Reserve and is in desperate need of medical assistance.

It is believed that the Mountain Reedbuck broke his leg a while back and has been roaming around ever since, the nature reserve thus calls on the help of anyone who may notice anything whether it be a hiker or person taking their morning jog on the lookout.

“The more people looking for the injured buck and reporting on it if they find it, the better, as long as they keep their distance, not to stress the poor animal. If somebody sees it, he/ she must please simply describe where it is, and send a GPS co-ordinate if possible and send to us straight away,” Karin Spottiswoode, a Friend of Kloofendal (FRoK) member said.

If anyone sees the reedbuck, notify Percy on 079 693 5608 immediately with the location of where it was spotted. A GPS location and/ or clear description will enable Johannesburg City Parks and Zoos to catch the animal, and then get a vet on site so that it can be assessed.

Earlier in October, Georgina Lackinger, one of the rehabilitators from the South African Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre, received a call about another injured Mountain Reedback, stranded in Rangeview, Krugersdorp. After being safely captured, the reedbuck was taken to the Walter Sisulu National Botanical Garden where the Sugarbush Ridge Coalition rangers built a recovery boma for just such an instance.
