Memorable event for people with disabilities

More than 100 people gathered in Muldersdrift for an unforgettable charity event hosted by the West Rand Associations for Persons with Disabilities.

The West Rand Association for Persons with Disabilities (WRAPD) hosted a memorable event at Moon and Sixpence on October 21.

The event was more than just a casual get-together as the purpose was to bring awareness to the challenges people with disabilities face as well as raise funds for the centre.

The WRAPD was founded in 1947, formerly known as the West Rand Cripple Care Association, as a direct result of the outbreak of the polio epidemic. The association has since evolved and developed catering for people with various physical and mental disabilities.

This centre, according to the association’s official website, caters for 65 multi-disabled adults from different communities such as Roodepoort, Krugersdorp, Munsieville, Davidsonville and Kagiso to name a few.

Activities at the centre include:

• Social functions and training sessions are organised by the social workers
