Cuppa for Cansa Tea – a beautiful turnout

The annual tea is hosted to commemorate two past presidents of the Wilro Park Lions Club and to celebrate those affected by cancer.

The Lions Club of Wilro Park hosted a Cuppa for Cansa on October 14 in a bid to help raise awareness of breast cancer and to raise funds for Cansa West Rand.

The annual event’s theme this year was ‘Tea with Friends’ with the underlying message of ‘I’ll be there for you’ to support cancer awareness.

Visiting Lions from Midrand Lions Club, Yolandi van der Schyf and Jacqui Hocking.

“Each year we do this in loving memory of two past presidents of our club – Marlene Lepley and Rajes Naidoo – both remembered with love as we celebrate their lives and the lives of all who are affected by cancer. In their honour we light a candle and pass that light on to others,” Sandy van Heerden, public relations officer for the club said.

About 60 women enjoyed an afternoon of fellowship in a beautifully decorated venue with catering done by the club who treated their guests to good food, drinks, flowers, and gifts, and exchanged interesting conversations.

The MC, Shirley Gerhard introduced this year’s guest speaker, Regorapetse Serote – a brave mother of a young daughter, and founder of She Speaks who shared her inspirational story of hope, love, purpose, and friends with the audience.

This year’s theme was ‘Tea with Friends – I’ll be there for you!’.

Regorapetse was diagnosed with cancer in 2017, and although she is still on her cancer journey, she said that she had ‘found her purpose in her brokenness’ and makes sure she is surrounded by community love and purpose.

The day saw all round excitement and chatter.
