Malicious attackers at community meeting’s case postponed

Four accused have appeared in the Roodepoort Magistrate's Court following a malicious attack on a councillor at a community meeting.

Following a malicious attack in Fleurhof on Wednesday, August 23 aimed at Ward 70 councillor Caleb Finn during a public meeting which left multiple residents in attendance injured, the four accused appeared in the Roodepoort Magistrate’s Court on October 6.

While slow progress has been made in bringing the culprits to book, Clr Finn cited that he will not rest until something has been done and said that he remains hopeful that the courts will act swiftly in ensuring that justice is done.

“It is vital that the community takes a firm stand against those involved now to prevent your voice from being silenced in the future due to intimidation and threats,” Finn said in a statement on October 5.

The case was postponed to November 7 for possible mediation. The complainants will only be consulted then which will determine a way forward.
