Truck crash could have been avoided – Florida North residents

A 5-ton truck reportedly crashed into a residential property on the afternoon of October 12. No injuries were reported, however, residents said it could have been worse.

A truck driver lost control because of the slippery road surface on the corner of Gordon and Bertha Road at about 13:30 on the afternoon of October 12 and crashed into a property.

Following reports from community members, crashes on this road are inevitable as they have been complaining to authorities for more than three years about trucks above the weight restriction travelling on this road.

According to Ward 70 committee member Raquel Fortune, this has been a persistent problem and complaints were sent to the authorities, including Johannesburg Roads Agency and the like, however, only delayed responses have been received, and no action.

“The road is bad and is slippery, especially during wet conditions with large trucks over five tons driving on the road. We have requested JMPD to stop trucks and redirect them towards Ontdekkers Road, onto Hendrik Potgieter Road, and the highway,” she said.

Although no injuries have been reported, First Help towing services are on the scene, however, the community said that this could have been worse if it was a much larger truck.
