Strubens Valley businesses push unity and togetherness for Heritage Day

A dunk tank, treasure hunt and lucky draw are small samples of the activities available for friends and family.

Residents, families and businesses came together to barter for better times.

Businesses at the shopping centre on Fredenharry Road held a community appreciation day and market to celebrate Heritage Day on September 24. Initiated by Silver Tree Estates, the community-owned stores opened their doors to provide one-day specials, and themed treats and to host a variety of family-orientated activities.

A Silver Tree Estates offered up one of their employees to be dunked in a tank of water by any child with an accurate throw. For the hungry, the property practitioners served boerewors rolls sponsored by Strubens Valley SPAR and children could work out some energy on the jumping castle. As the day progressed, the children participated in a treasure hunt through all the stores and a colouring competition before the announcement of the lucky draw winners.

“This event is by the community, for the community. As businesses and individuals, we thrive on community engagement and we want to show how much we appreciate our community,” said Silver Tree Estates’ Marietjie Neumann.

The event was not a Little Falls Residents Association (LIFCO) initiative but LIFCO was among the beneficiaries.

Welcoming the strengthening of community ties, LIFCO chairperson Claire Fauchet said, “Thank you to our local business Silver Tree Estates for the support, and also for embracing the culture of unity during Heritage Month. We appreciate the support of our efforts toward uniting the community through a generous donation to our forum.”
