FSRA along with various community members clean up their ward

The Florida South Residents Association takes hands with different entities to actively make a change in their community.

The Florida South Residents Association (FSRA) did their part to keep the community clean.

On September 16, residents along with the FSRA and AfriForum came together at the park across from Florida Police Station to clean up the litter lying around.

Rodney Churchyard, the chairperson for the FSRA, explained rubbish is his pet peeve and instead of asking who will do something about it, they should ‘take hands with the different entities and actively make a change in the ward’. He stated they cannot just sit back and allow for everything to go to ruins, they have to start with themselves to make a difference.

He continued to say this is the fourth year they are doing this and AfriForum supported the event by sponsoring five workers to help out as well as some of their staff.

Residents and members of a local rehabilitation centre also showed their support for the cause and they were able to expand the clean-up to Lockies Lane as well. Pikitup was set to remove the bags after the clean-up was completed, and Churchyard explained that Johannesburg City Parks and Zoo had already done some cleaning up of the park by the time they got there.

He added, “Instead of asking when they will do something about the problem, we should ask who are ‘they’ and do something about it, because if we don’t nobody will.”
