City of Johannesburg EMS test skills at wellness day

The community relies heavily on emergency services. They tested what they were capable of to protect the community.

City of Johannesburg Emergency Management Services (CoJEMS) tested their skills at a recent wellness day.

On September 7 the firefighters of CoJEMS along with physiotherapy students from the University of the Witwatersrand and occupational health practitioners as well as Clinix Health Group came together at the Florida fire station to take part in various emergency training activities.

CoJEMS spokesperson Xolile Khumalo said, “The event is aimed at testing the firefighter’s physical abilities and uplifting their spirit taking into consideration the strenuous environment they work under.”

He added they did posture exercises, and how to lift patients, as well as tested for blood pressure, cholesterol, glucose, and body mass index. To test their fitness they ran with fire equipment.
