Malicious attack yields little progress

Slow progress has been made in bringing the culprits to book and Clr Finn cited that he will not rest until something has been done.

Following the malicious attack on Ward 70 councillor, Caleb Finn during a public meeting that took place at Fleurhof Community Hall on August 23 to discuss the launch of a new project, another statement has been issued on the progress of the case.

In the statement issued by Finn on August 28, the lack of progress made in the formally lodged criminal case has been highlighted following the apprehension of 12 suspects taken by Florida police, however, only three have been charged and appeared in the Roodepoort magistrate’s court on August 25.

“Unfortunately, at this stage, the case has not progressed much. The fourth identified suspect remains free from justice. I am informed that two were granted bail and one is still in the process of applying for bail,” Finn said.

The efforts to apprehend the other suspects who were also involved in causing the mayhem were proved futile.

“The above situation is despite my appeal to the district police commissioner, Major-General Masha, the appeal was made when I realised that the case was losing momentum,” Finn said and cited that he will continue lodging urgent requests for intervention, and if all else fails, will continue to escalate the matter to the provincial commissioner.

“I will again today [August 28] lodge an urgent request for intervention, and if failed, I will escalate this matter to the provincial commissioner.”

The community is further encouraged to communicate any info on those involved in the attack to one of the commanders, Colonel Tsotetsi on 079 034 4195 or Major-General Masha on 082 447 3542.
