Flowers, Seeds and Busy Bee’s holds charity Women’s Day market

The Florida-based nursery holds this Women’s Day market every year and stalls had to pay R150 which was donated to children’s homes.

Flowers, Seeds and Busy Bee’s (FSBB) accommodated a variety of stalls at its annual Women’s Day (August 9) market.

The nursery, which has been running for six years, is owned by Thelma Botha and sells plant and gardening equipment, and has been holding the market for the past four years.

The market idea was initiated to celebrate women and raise funds for children’s homes.

“We charge R150 per stall and the funds go to Multi Charities, which is a local charity that my mom runs, and it is based in Florida,” Botha said.

Various stalls were set up with background music by Pieter Lerm, including that of Boho Chick based in Ruimsig, which has been open for about a year now, owned by Murna Claassen and Tania Eksteen who sells crochet and wooden items, and jewellery.

“I think every woman should have the opportunity to live out her passion and to freely express their creativity. And that is what Murna and I are doing here today – celebrating women,” Eksteen said.

Other stalls also stuck to the Women’s Day theme and had handmade items. One such stall was that of Nikki Nix Creations, who sells mosaic, painted, and dot art items. Nikki Forbes said that she does everything ‘woman alone’. Another one was that of Iba-Umngani, directly translated to “Be a friend” whose stall was set up to raise funds for homeless, abandoned and abused children.

Market-goers were generally ecstatic to be able to celebrate Women’s Day at FSBB.
