Church kicks off choir festival on a high note

Chorales from different organisations will return to exhibit their skills at the next choir festival being held at Roodepoort Sentrum vir Bejaardes on Saturday, August 5.

NG Kerk Witpoortjie hosted their first out of two choir festivals on July 28, which saw different choir groups participate in the choral festivities.

Among these were choirs across different age categories (senior and junior) and consisted of school choir groups from Laerskool Horison, which had both their seniors and juniors, Laerskool Protearif’s juniors, Laerskool Dr Havinga, Randfontein High School and two adult choir groups – Karisma and Johannesburg WA Mozart Choir.

The event saw a diverse group of choirs participating in the first out of two festivals.

“The choir festival was a dream of Marietjie Visser [organiser] who, with Rev Rudolph Botha’s help, set the ball rolling,” Daniela Pretorius, Mozart’s Accompanist said.

The melodic proceedings conceded with each choir awaiting their turn to ‘wow’ the crowd with the carefully selected ensemble to perform their pieces.

Patrons who were in attendance cited that it was a wonderful evening of beautiful choral music and convivial togetherness which was well organised.

The organisers would like to thank Marietjie Visser, Rev Botha and the congregation members of NG Kerk Witpoortjie for their hospitality and arrangements.
