Women in Prayer group hands blankets to Child Welfare

It was an emotional handover as the welfare organisation showed a genuine spirit of gratitude.

The Horison Methodist Church’s Women in Prayer group handed 142 blankets over to Child Welfare Roodepoort on July 21 as part of their blanket drive whereby they called upon the community to assist.

Although the 500 blankets – which was initially planned for – were not achieved, the prayer group managed to hand over the 142 blankets they had collected to the welfare centre in Discovery and received a warm welcome of song and praise to express their gratitude.

The handover was a success and Child Welfare Roodepoort was very grateful.

Reverend Kim Alexander, founder of this initiative, along with the women from the prayer group were very emotional during the handover and said that the drive will continue until the goal of 500 blankets is reached as her wish is for every child to have a blanket this winter.

Maria Sebole from Child Welfare showed genuine gratitude as she received the blankets and said that they are very appreciative of the efforts of the prayer group.

“I hope and pray that God bless these women as I know that all of them have needs that people may not know, but through this, they will be blessed as the Bible says that the hand which gives is more blessed than the one which receives,” she said as she thanked the women.

Lesley Moya thanked the women for this valuable gift and cited that they should be involved in more projects such as this.

The NPO takes care of abandoned and neglected children and ensures they are placed in safe homes, and services those who are in foster care through visits and ensuring that everything is well.

Among the blankets was the work of Yvonne Jordan and her team of about six women at Quadrille Quilters who made 71 blankets that can be used in summer and winter.
