City Power embarks on maintenance project to test meter accuracy

Residents asked to double-check the technician's credentials before allowing them access to their property.

City Power contractors are conducting essential maintenance on the existing meters in and around Roodepoort.

The planned maintenance exercise is currently being undertaken in Davidsonville and Lufhereng to ensure that meters can measure consumption accurately for billing purposes. Additionally, this will help identify faults and allow for faulty meters to be replaced for them to be able to buy electricity.

Revenue collection is important as it allows City Power to render quality service to all customers in the City of Johannesburg. Residents will be notified of the dates through communication with their ward councillors and community outreach programmes. City Power appeal to customers for co-operation and to allow officials access once confirming their purpose.

Please note that ward councillors do not assign technicians and are not involved in any City Power operations.

City Power urged customers to be vigilant at all times and only allow City Power contractors with a valid card with the following details:

– A card bearer’s name and surname
– A card bearer’s ID photo
– An expiry date. If the card is already expired, that bearer is not fully authorised to work on the City Power network.
– The name of the company contracted to City Power
– No contractor is allowed to work with another person’s ID card
– Green ID cards are for meter readers and turquoise for meter maintenance or installation

If customers are unsure of the legitimacy of the contractor, they should call City Power on 011 490 7553/ 7911 to verify the contractor’s credentials. City Power contact centre and the various service delivery centres’ customer desks will be ready to support customers.
