Residents of Wilro Park prepared for the planned water outage

Wilro Park is among the many suburbs only starting to experience the effects of the planned water shutdown but luckily residents were able to take preventative measures.

With water outages looming, many residents have made adequate provisions.

Godfrey Ntseane who works at Sterlig Retirement Village said they haven’t had any trouble with water or low water pressure so far and no one has come to collect water from the tank which Johannesburg Water (JW) dropped off at the retirement village. He continued to say where he lives, in Bram Fischerville, the water has been off since Tuesday night (July 11), but there hasn’t been any upstir of people, therefore he believes it will be the same in Wilro Park.

Koot Pretorius, a resident of the Wilro Park Retirement Village, explained he filled his tub with water for an emergency so he wouldn’t have trouble.

Pretorius’ neighbour, Elaine Schoombie, said their water went off on Tuesday night, but they haven’t had any trouble without water as of yet. She adds they warned the residents to prepare for the planned outage and in another section of their village they have a borehole, although JW did supply both sections with water tankers. On Wednesday, July 12 however, no one has collected water from the tank yet.

She explains whether the tank has enough water for all the residents, of the 146 houses, depends on how long the outage will continue, she doesn’t believe it will be enough if the outage continues until the weekend, however, she is unsure of whether or not the tanks will be refilled.

Both villages did however take preventative measures by advising the residents to fill buckets with water and fill their baths halfway with water so they can at least flush their toilets and wouldn’t need to carry heavy buckets of water up and down.
