Water shutdown: Additional water tanks deployed

There were 149 stationary tanks and 65 water trucks deployed to mitigate the water shutdown.

Johannesburg Water (JW) has issued an update on the water shutdown and has confirmed that additional water tanks have been deployed in various areas.

According to a media statement issued late on 12 July, JW has provided an additional 149 stationary tanks and 65 water trucks to mitigate the water shortage due to the planned maintenance shutdown.

These additional water tankers have been deployed to supply areas that are still in need such as Randburg, Roodepoort, and the Southdale regions.

The statement also said that JW is pleading with residents not to approach critical sites such as hospitals and clinics to get water as this drastically reduces the health facilities’ water supply.

A progress update has also been issued and the water supplier said that work is progressing as scheduled at the Zwartkopjes Booster Pump Station with reservoirs and towers in the South and CBD being critically low to empty. JW cited that the system continues to take strain and said that in some of the reservoirs, pumping has stopped.

At Eikenhof Booster Pump Station, the reservoirs are critically low to empty, the towers are empty and there is no water at direct supply points. Furthermore, JW cited Soweto reservoirs and towers have the capacity, however, the Doornkop reservoir is empty and the Tshepisong direct supply does not have water as well with the Lenasia and South systems also critically low to empty.
