NPR kids chat about Youth Day

Youth Day is one of the many public holidays in South Africa.

The learners at Nova Pioneer Ruimsig chatted to the Roodepoort Northsider about the reason why they celebrate Youth Day.

Thandeka Gumede, in Grade 5, wrote: “We celebrate Youth Day to remember the students who fought to make education better for us. We also talk about the leader who made a difference in our lives.”

Kyla Radebe wrote: “We celebrate Youth Day to honour the people who died in 1976. They were students who were fighting to be taught in a language that they could understand.”
