Honeydew Ridge’s resident Spotted Eagle Owl injured – community encouraged to help locate it before it’s too late

The Spotted Eagle Owl is visibly injured and finding it is a time sensitive task.

A resident Spotted Eagle Owl in the Honeydew Ridge area is in dire need of medical assistance.

Brendan Murray from the Owl Rescue put out a plea for assistance on the rescue’s social media platforms asking residents of Honeydew Ridge to look out for the visibly injured Spotted Eagle Owl after residents called him on June 5.

“We received a call from a concerned community member about the owl and have been on the lookout for him since,” explained Murray.

On June 6, the Owl Rescue had an opportunity to catch the owl but unfortunately missed it. Murray encourages the Honeydew Ridge community to look out for the bird on their rooftops as it needs urgent medical attention.

“We think the owl was injured when he flew into a fence,” added Murray, stating that the problem with such an injury is that flies could get into the wound, lay their eggs and when the maggots hatch they could very well eat him alive.

“People in the area know him and have seen him around before. We need to get to him within the next couple of days to treat the wound before the flies get to it,” emphasised Murray.

Residents are encouraged to call Murray on 082 719 5463 if they see the injured Spotted Owl.
