What is the function of a Ward Committee?

Ward committees are a link between the municipality and the community. Ward committees are responsible for making representations and recommendations on local government issues in their wards. They communicate between the municipality and the people through the ward councillor and hold the ward councillor accountable for the fulfilment of their duties.

A ward committee should hold at least four meetings annually as ward councillors must provide quarterly reports on the state of their wards. Ward committees must also meet to discuss the Integrated Development Plan, the Performance Management System and various other key public documents relating to budget, policy and by-laws.
