Life Flora Hospital celebrates their guardian angels on International Nurses Day

A carnival atmosphere was created to share the pride and joy of the nursing staff.

Life Flora Hospital proudly recognised their dedicated nurses who continue to be the cornerstone of quality healthcare.

This year’s global theme of International Nurses Day, celebrated on May 12, was ‘Our Nurses, Our Future”. This theme highlights the invaluable contributions nurses make to the well-being of patients and communities. With a deep sense of pride and gratitude, Life Flora Hospital acknowledged the unwavering commitment and sacrifice made by nurses each day as they provide exceptional care to patients.

Throughout the challenges faced over the past few years, these remarkable individuals have shown resilience and dedication, embodying the spirit of nursing. Merle Victor, Chief Nurse Officer at Life Healthcare, emphasised the significance of International Nurses Day in the context of a strained and often underappreciated profession.

She had a message for nurses across the country, saying:

“There is a reason you are doing what you are doing. There is nothing like being there when a baby is born, and you are part of that experience, and you are there when you close the eyes of a dying patient. You mean so much to us, to your community, and society. You are our future. We thank you for your service, certainly to the nursing profession but also South Africa.”

Fun was the order of the day as a carnival was set up for the nurses running in two sessions, one each for day and night shifts. The carnival stands included popcorn, slushies, candy floss, hot dogs, hot chocolate, carnival games, and a photo booth to capture the special day. Teamwork and a strong sense of pride were reiterated by a moving candlelit reading of The Nurse’s Pledge.
