Second Black Eagle egg of the season laid!

If all goes well, the monitors expect the eggs to hatch from June 2 to 6.

The Black Eagle breeding pair at the Walter Sisulu National Botanical Garden, Mahlori and Makatsa laid their second egg of the season on Sunday, April 23.

According to Dougie Crewe from the Black Eagle Project Roodekrans, if everything goes according to plan, the public can expect both eggs to hatch in the first week of June.

Seven Monitors were on duty in the Gardens Tuesday morning, chatting to all the visitors who showed an interest in the Eagles and updating them on the current situation.

Although it was impossible to witness Makatsa and Mahlori’s brooding from below the Waterfall, there were repeated ‘changes of shifts’ during the day. Both Eagles were performing their fair share of egg-sitting.
