A murdered Honeydew officer was the second policeman, this time an officer from Carletonville, to fall victim to the gang’s cruel tactics in recent weeks. Both officers were lured to the area near Shoshanguve on the premise of purchasing a motor vehicle they had seen advertised online. Upon arriving at the location, both were ambushed, robbed, and murdered.

“Eight suspects were arrested without incident and were detained for possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition, possession of suspected drugs, and impersonating a police officer. Four handguns with filed-off serial numbers were recovered, one of which was identified as the state firearm belonging to the robbed police officer.

An assortment of police uniforms was also recovered at the address,” confirmed Honeydew Police spokesperson, Warrant Officer Dave Stanton.

The eight men appeared before the Soshanguwe Regional Court on Thursday, April 6.
Stanton added, “A search is ongoing for one suspect who remains at large. Further investigations are in progress and will likely result in additional charges being levied against the arrested suspects.”
