“Most of our riders come from disadvantaged backgrounds, so participating in our programmes improves their quality of life and helps them to break out of marginalisation,” said Megan Gouws, Marketing Manager at The EARTH Centre.

“Volunteering at The EARTH Centre will enable you to make a direct impact in the lives of disabled and disadvantaged children in our community. Seeing the progress made by individuals is so rewarding, knowing that you played a part in that,” Megan added.

The duties of volunteers include assisting children with side-walking, which is assisting the child on the horse with balance, motivation and communication. Leading, which is guiding the horse where the instructor needs the child to go, is another key component. Volunteers may also be required to assist with maintenance as well as the lessons.

The EARTH Centre provides free riding therapy lessons for schools from Monday to Friday and volunteers to assist in group lessons every weekday morning from 9:00 to 12:00. Training will be provided and those who wish to be a positive force in the life of a child may contact The EARTH Centre on 072 220 4604 to book a spot.
