The Johannesburg Care Foundation

The Johannesburg Care Foundation is a non-profit organisation that focuses on bringing food to children and elderly in need.

The Johannesburg Care Foundation was founded in April 2012 by Llewellyn Ryan, who is also the chairperson of the organisation. They operate within the West Rand with soup kitchens for both children and the elderly.

The foundation’s mission statement is, “To make a difference in the lives and condition of the poor, hungry, and forgotten by sowing funds of love, of kindness, of understanding, and of peace.”

The foundation also reaches out to other areas, such as Claremont and Ahmed Kathrada Informal Settlement, Eldorado Park, Klipspruit, and Florida, and wherever there are people in need, besides the West Rand.

“The Foundation’s Soup kitchen in Claremont and Ahmed Kathrada Informal Settlement supplies sandwiches during the week and a cooked meal on Saturdays and is run by a group of women volunteers. In 2022 thus far the Foundation distributed over 4 000 loaves of bread.

In Eldorado Park and Klipspruit, the Foundation partners with church groups and community organisations in our fight against hunger. In Klipspruit the Foundation also distributes food to the vulnerable and marginalised members [grandmothers] of our community once a week,” stated Llewellyn.

Glynnis Mc Farlane said, “The Foundation distributes 3 000 meals per month through our poverty alleviation project for our underprivileged children and elderly. As a Public Benefit Organisation we are also involved with numerous community-based organisations such as early childhood education, and drug awareness campaigns with stakeholders such as SAPS, Department of Education, Department of Correctional Services, and religious organisations”.
