Residents clean up Hugo Street Park

"We started doing this to ensure that our park is safe and clean for the children in our community to play in."

Ward 85 Councillor Zoné Hughes together with a couple of local residents as well as two councillors from neighbouring wards cleaned up Hugo Street Park in Honey Hill.

On Saturday, January 21, many residents helped cleaned up the bushes in the park and got rid of all the refuse and rubble hiding away in the bushes.

Armed with plastic bags, gloves, waders, shovels, hand forks, saws and loads of community spirit, the residents dedicated their time to making the park a cleaner place.

“We started doing this to ensure that our park is safe and clean for the children in our community to play in.

“I will also be engaging with Joburg City Parks and Zoo (JCPZ) about getting them involved in getting the bushes cut back to ensure that the park is safe and clean,” said Hughes.

According to Hughes, City Parks has also started doing maintenance work in the park in the recent week and upgraded the play area.

“Thank you to everyone in the community who came out to give a helping hand and to help build community spirit, we look forward to seeing you all next time,” said Hughes.
