Her single, ‘Made for You’, was inspired by her first love, and was written while she was recovering from a horrible sport’s injury.
“In March last year I tore two ligaments in my leg,” Sam explained, “During the healing process I had a lot of time to write and study, and that’s when I wrote Made for You.”

Sam has been going to a music school since she was a young girl. “My music coach, Danny Dippenaar helped me to write the music for the song. And then the music school gave us the opportunity to record and then do a music video,” Sam exclaimed.

Sam is currently busy working at her church and also coaches softball, netball and swimming at Trinityhouse Little Falls. “Fortunately, my ligaments have healed very well, perfectly even,” she added, “not being able to walk and having to relearn how to walk were scary because I mean, like, you go on crutches and then they tell you all of a sudden to use a cane, and then you start stepping on it. It was just the scariest thing that I was experiencing.”

While Sam was recovering from the injury she had her record, and final exams ahead of her. She explained that juggling the pain, and then the worry and then more worry about school was intense. “It was more of an ‘okay, this happened for a reason I can now focus on academics more’ moment. I spent my time studying, instead of focusing on the my foot. I was grateful that I could focus on academics, it really helped me get through the recovery.”

Apart from her love for music and sport, Sam dreams of becoming a Data Engineer for a Formula One team. “So a data engineer has about, like over 1 000 sensors on the Formula One car, then data engineers take the data and process it so that they can know where the car is struggling, what’s happening and also how to get the right racing line or driver for the best possible outcome,” Sam elaborated.
