"The good news is that most of the people at the forefront of the challenges really do care and really do want to change things around for the better"

Preparing for an eventful yet fruitful 2023, Ward 85 councillor Zoné Hughes writes:

“Dear Residents of Ward 85 and Roodepoort, 2022 was a challenging year but we made it.

Good work has started and hopefully more will be done in the coming days, weeks and months of 2023.

We have entered 2023 in very challenging circumstances within our communities. However, the good news is that most of the people at the forefront of the challenges really do care and really do want to change things around for the better. Ward Councillors are on the ground with you doing all we can within our prescribed mandate to ensure that we keep everyone at the very least updated on what is going on within our respective wards.

City Power is the entity in the spotlight for most ward councillors on the ground, but we all know that our roads and bridges are falling apart, not to mention homes being flooded and a rising homelessness figure not only in the City of Johannesburg but worldwide.

The challenges we are facing within the city are enormous but together we can make it a better place by doing what we can to ensure that problems get attended to by reporting it to the relevant entity and sending it on to the Ward Councillor if not attended to within the prescribed SLA.

In 2023 we need to be all in this together because teamwork makes the dream work and our dream for the city of Johannesburg is for the City of Gold to get it’s shine back for that to happen we need residents to do their civic duty to report issues in their area so that it can be attended to.

Happy new year and let us all go out there and do what we can to make the City of Joburg Shine again!”.
