Ward 97 councillor Jacques Hoon writes:

Dear Residents of Ward 97

During the past year, we have had many challenges with municipal services, especially with the many electricity disruptions that continue to plague the ward and the country through load-shedding. I would like to thank you, the residents, for your incredible support and cooperation throughout this challenging year.

We have a wealth of active and engaged residents who diligently reported and escalated issues that needed attention and intervention. Through your efforts, we were and will be able to put pressure on the entities to render the services we expect.

I would also like to thank the many residents who assisted and supported the officials from the entities in their endeavours to provide their services. Your patience and support were well received by all the officials that worked long hours under challenging conditions to assist us.

In the coming year, I would earnestly request every resident to be an active and engaged citizen. Working together and in unison will make our environment the place we all want to live, work, and play in. We owe it to ourselves, our children, and our future to actively engage with the municipality to ensure that problems are reported and resolved. We must ensure that we all play our part in contributing to the well-being and continued growth of our community and city.

I look to the new year with optimism and hope to see you at the public meetings hosted throughout the year. Through these engagements, we will be able to cultivate a better understanding of local government, and we will also collectively be able to plan our way forward for the development of the ward.
