Doctor at Princess Clinic hosts World Aids Day event

According to the organisers, the event gave people the opportunity to unite in the fight against HIV and bring support for the people living with Aids.

Doctor Welna Havemann from Princess Clinic hosted a World Aids Day event at the clinic on Thursday, December 1 for orphaned children from Princess, Zandspruit and Davidsonville settlements.

The event allowed those in attendance to get information from the various organisations involved – both through pamphlets and the speakers in attendance.

According to one of the organisers, Uthandile Ndiki, the purpose of the day was to link the community with the clinic.

“This was to bring everyone together and remind the community that we are here for them and we appreciate them,” Ndiki said.

Amapantsula and traditional dancers from Tshepang Programme for Orphaned and Vulnerable children provided the entertainment on the day.

One of the speakers, Thabang Molala, said the day was filled with joy as people from the area were informed about living with HIV/ Aids.

Following a candle-lighting ceremony, gifts were distributed to the children in attendance.

According to the organisers, the event gave people the opportunity to unite in the fight against HIV and bring support for the people living with Aids.

World Aids Day is commemorated each year on December 1 and is an opportunity for every community to unite in the fight against HIV, to show support and to remember those who have died.
