Hillfox Hornets’ seniors cap off fine season with more medals

The finals of the senior section of the Action Netball Gauteng Superleague were hosted at the Sandton Action Arena on November 26.

Hillfox Hornets again had a quality showing bring home multiple medals, three of them of the prized gold variety. Teams would range from all-female squads to mixed teams and one all male division in age groups from U19 to the division for players over 35 years of age. Nine senior teams qualified to travel to the northern suburbs in search of honours and a hard fought day would yielded a total of six medals.

The Mixed B1 squad would earn their bronze medal with a 46-36 win over Secunda. The Mixed B2 and Mixed U30 teams would unfortunately have to settle for silver when they lost their finals 33-29 and 40-22 to Benoni and Centurion, respectively.

The gold medals were earned by the Mixed U19, Ladies U23 and Mens teams. The Mixed U19 team beat Vaal 48-15 while the Ladies U23’s brushed aside Key West 44-23 in a fierce West Rand derby. Rounding off the third of the relatively comfortable results, the Men sent Centurion home with a silver medal beating them 41-25.

To put the cherry on top of an outstanding season, Hillfox were awarded the Gauteng Superleague Arena of the Year Award at the season ending prize giving. Many more awards are on offer and the squads will be working hard to make 2023 an equally spectacular.
