Congratulations to Jan Katshiba for coming first in the Gauteng Department of Education’s provincial numeracy challenge held in mid-September. At 10 years old, Jan is an articulate and focused young boy who has his future firmly grasped in his hands. Knowing since pre-primary school that he wanted to be a scientist, Jan is interested in anything scientific from chemistry to rockets.

“My dad said that to be a scientist I need to be smart and need to know lots of things. It has been a dream since I was young to be a scientist. I like numbers and I like being able to remember things,” said Jan. Excited for Grade 4, it won’t be long before Jan sees himself in a long white lab coat.
