Man arrested in Wilro Park after shooting at security guard

The suspect fired several shots at the vehicle and went inside the yard and tried to gain entry into the house by shooting the security door.

On Monday, November 28 the Record received reports of a shootout between a male suspect and a security guard in Foxglove Street in Wilro Park.

Police confirmed that a 54-year-old man was arrested in Wilro Park on Monday after he allegedly shot at Beagle Watch Security personnel that was responding to an activated panic button.

The suspect, who was found with two firearms, a pistol and a shotgun, is expected to appear in the Roodepoort Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, 30 November, facing charges of attempted murder and possession of unlicensed firearms.

Gauteng Police Spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Mavela Masondo said that more charges might be added, pending the investigation

It is alleged that the armed suspect arrived at the residential place of his ex-lover and demanded to see her.

The ex-lover who locked herself inside the house, fearing for her life, was able to press the panic button and the security guard responded swiftly.

It is reported that upon seeing the security guard arrive, the suspect fired several shots at the vehicle and went inside the yard and tried to gain entry into the house by shooting the security door.

Police officers from Highway Patrol Unit arrived at the scene and disarmed the suspect who was then arrested.

The suspect was found in possession of two unlicensed firearms, preliminary investigation revealed that both firearms belong to the suspect but the licences had expired.

Masondo confirmed that no injuries were reported, and the police investigation is continuing.

Beagle Watch Security confirmed that they responded to an activated panic button and their vehicle was shot on the front bonnet and windscreen.
