Kind gesture goes a long way

Focusing on learner development this time around, Princess High School was selected as the beneficiary of some highly valued gifts which are often taken for granted.

On Thursday, November 17 Princess High School received a special visit from the Khwezi Foundation and Reveel Media.

The Khwezi Foundation is an organisation that was established in 2014 by Yandi Bongiwe Makalima who has a dream of bringing back the culture of not just reading, but reading with meaning.

“Because of my love for literacy I want to reinstate this passion in others. We are not only limited to literacy programs but also learner development and career path initiatives,” foundation director, Makalima said.

Focusing on learner development this time around, she selected Princess High School (PHS) as the beneficiary of some highly valued gifts which are often taken for granted.

Nestled between Princess Informal Settlement and Mhlangeni Informal Settlement, PHS caters for learners from disadvantaged communities.

“The school experiences a lot of social challenges, so we felt this would be a feel good story, not only for the school but the community as well,” Makalima said.

“As the school will be hosting their matric dance after the final exams, we thought these goodies will come in handy and ease the pressure on the teachers who are trying to raise funds for the matric dance. This is a beautiful gesture on their side and we just thought it best to help them out a bit.”

On this day each matriculant received a gift bag with toiletries and other essentials such as make-up and perfume, sponsored by Reveel Media. The school is grateful for the generous donation and sees this as an opportunity for further collaboration with Khwezi Foundation and Reveel Media.

“This time of the year is always exciting for many, as we head into the festive season and holidays. Like many school-goers, the learners at Princess High School are pushing through with their final exams – a beyond stressful time specifically for the Grade 12 learners,” the Reveel Media team said.

“We feel so grateful to have been able to brighten their day with these gifts, and we wish them the very best for the rest of their exams and for their futures after their Matric year!”

School principal, Barbara Desire Matsinye-Mahlangu subsequently thanked the involved parties on behalf of the school and the School Governing Body. Matsinye-Mahlangu believes the gifts will go a long way among the learners.
