Healthy ageing for elderly residents

Following the informative talks, the hospital's medical team provided complimentary blood pressure and blood sugar tests for the residents.

It’s not always about living longer, but rather about living healthily and happily for longer.

Although healthy ageing is a continuous process of optimising opportunities to maintain and improve physical and mental health and quality of life throughout the life course, experts at Life Flora believe it’s still possible for elderly people to make the changes that could help them age rather healthily.

On Wednesday, November 9, the Life Flora Hospital team including Dr Susan Coetzer (Sub-Specialist Geriatrician and Specialist Physician) as well as Amanda van Huyssteen (Clinical Dietitian) paid a visit to the Wilro Park Retirement Village.

During their visit Dr Coetzer presented her audience of approximately 75 residents with a talk on healthy ageing where after Huyssteen talked about nutrition.

“At Life Flora Hospital our team of dedicated specialist physicians are passionate about diagnosing and treating medical conditions of all kinds. That’s why we were very excited to reach out to the community in the form of such a visit once again,” Life Flora Hospital Marketing and Communications Coordinator, Lauren van Zanten said.

Following the informative talks, the hospital’s medical team provided complimentary blood pressure and blood sugar tests for the residents.

“Such tests are necessary as you can pick up abnormalities that residents are aware of but do not follow up with their General Practitioner as well as newly identified illnesses,” Sr Martie Kirsten explained.

“We had a wonderful and warm welcome. It was a very social group with lots of interaction,” the Life Flora Hospital team concluded.
