The health promotion team from Region C planned the event with the collaboration of various stakeholders for the communities in Ward 70.

Health Promotion Coordinator, Thembile Tshabalala said that his team appreciated the support and attendance as well as the services provided to the communities.

On the day many services were offered namely, breast and cervical cancer screening and testing, family planning, HIV/ Aids testing and treatment initiation, diabetes, blood pressure, TB screening and testing, pregnancy test, condom distribution and Covid-19 vaccination.

According to Tshabalala, over the last couple of years, the Department of Health has done findings that the people in its communities are more educated and aware about HIV/ Aids/ TB, Hypertension, Diabetes, Cancer, Covid-19 etc and therefore want to continue to raise awareness by mobilising and holding such events in the communities.

Aerobics and an education session on health issues that impact the community were available on the day while a mobile clinic was onsite to provide free services to the community.

“The healthy lifestyle event was made possible by myself and David Matshela as well as the health promotion team in collaboration with Anova, Right2Care and various stake holders.

The aim is to encourage our people to exercise and prioritise their health in order to fight against developing chronic diseases such hypertension and diabetes and to intensify the fight against communicable diseases such as Covid-19.

“A healthy body is a healthy mind and we strive to ensure that we can capacitate our communities, so that they can have a long and healthy life through the promotion of healthy lifestyle practices and wellness,” said Tshabalala.
