Badminton Club back at Witpoortjie Recreation Centre

“Playing frequently makes this a very enjoyable and social sport, people can play from very young to very old."

Emeralda Badminton Club is happy to announce that they are back playing again at the Witpoortjie Recreation Centre from Tuesdays, November 1.

During Covid the club had to close down due to the government’s restrictions on sport and other activities.

Organiser, Magda Hamman told the Record that the club was established around 1977 and it is still operating despite all challenges that it had to go through.

Badminton is an indoor sport, fast-paced, played with a badminton racket and shuttle.

Special court shoes are required, but for newcomers normal tekkies will do, rules of the game must be learned, and experienced players will be more than willing to teach the newcomers.

“Playing frequently makes this a very enjoyable and social sport, people can play from very young to very old. Unfortunately, we had to close the club during Covid, now three years later we are so pleased to return to the Witpoortjie Recreation Centre to play badminton again and get exercise and meet up with friends. We welcome any new and old players to join us weekly on Tuesdays from 9:00 to 12:00,” said Magda.
